Pythagoras’ Daughter

The Mystery of Beauty

Beauty does not linger, it only visits.
Yet beauty's visitation affects us and invites us into its rhythm,
it calls us to feel, think, and act beautifully in the world:
to create and live a life that awakens the Beautiful.

John O'Donohue

"I thought I knew all I needed about make-up techniques and application.  Not only did I learn important new ways to bring out the best of my features with the least amount of product and time but the results have been truly amazing!  Both sessions were invaluable in their positive, supportive and FUN approach to beauty and fashion.  Even more, the emphasis on inner strength and beauty as well as outer image provided hope for a better, lasting relationship with myself not dependant on the superficial."

"Barbara always deals in the best -- the most effective, the most expert, the most delightful. A day with her and her workshops is well-spent. I came away knowing where I was going to change and how to do it. You can't ask for more!"

---MB, Jefferson, Maryland.

"This is a unique and well-executed program to enhance one's life. Through a series of retreats I attended, I have realized the following benefits: My self-esteem has dramatically improved and I feel I know myself, my wants and desires, much better now. I have more clarity and focus in my inter-personal relationships. And as a direct result of the retreat I am continuing to do my artwork every day! I wholeheartedly recommend these retreats. Barbara is a gracious and knowledgeable facilitator who will encourage you to develop yourself to your fullest potential. Enjoy! "

---J.W., Washington, DC

As I opened the door to the place where my POSITIVE IMAGE retreat was being held I didn't know what to expect. Would I be told that my complexion was of a seasonal variety that clashed with the shirt I was wearing? Or, would I discover my favorite shoes are an unspeakable fashion abomination? I didn't know. But, I was excited to begin the process. And, my excitement wasn't misplaced. The retreat carefully led me through a discovery process that was an epiphany! I came to recognize and embrace the image I project. The session helped me, in a totally painless way, refine my image understanding and learn to make the most of it. It was great!

Is it possible to be a spiritual seeker and also care about how you look? Sometimes I get the impression that the answer is a vehement NO, that a person who is truly committed to his or her inner path ought to be above such indulgences as self-image, especially when they involve makeup and clothes.

But Barbara Bitondo de Arène, who has been on a vision quest, works during the day in the banking industry, and has spent years doing lots of deep, hard, soul-searching, believes that inner beauty and outer beauty can--and must --fit together. Her Pythagoras’ Daughter - A Mystery School workshops focus on seeing the mythical figure within each person and taking simple steps to make that ideal self more visible. Participants learn how to mix and embellish the clothes they have and how to use organic makeup (and less of it) for a more natural look. Instead of leaving the workshop thinking that they have to spend more money on clothes and beauty products, clients (both men and women) discover that they already have all they need. "Women tell me they walk differently," says Bitondo de Arène. "Men say they are suddenly more comfortable in their skin."
