Pythagoras’ Daughter

Pythagoras’ Daughter, established in 2007, advances individual transformation using a unique blend of Earth-Centered Spirituality and Frontier Science Processes that help participants develop a life-giving relationship with the world.

Mystery School is an adventure into conscious taking us deeper as we transform the lives we are already living into a journey of awakening. Our twenty-first century version of this great and ancient tradition is dedicated to the examination of the world's mysticism, the plethora of great masters and spiritual paths. Sessions are intellectually rigorous and highly experiential. Each focuses on a different aspect of this vast course of study. We study original texts when available learn ancient wisdom and apply Frontier Science processes. An experiential adventure, Mystery School is ideal for anyone who feels called to serious transformation and spiritual discovery.

Earth-Centered Spirituality involves living in harmony with and maintaining a reverence for Nature. Walking along this path is one way to regain an affinity with the earth and reclaim our heritage. There are no creeds or dogmas, neither prophets nor holy books. Rituals and creative visualization are the tools used.

Frontier Science includes consciousness studies. Respected programs emphasize the integration of scientific approaches with contemplative methods adhering to equally high standards, radically expanding the study of the mind to explore its potentials more fully. The focus is often on the cultivation of human flourishing and genuine happiness through exceptional mental health and balance.

Pythagoras’ Daughter is committed to treading very gently on the earth which is why our preferred form of communication is email, printing is done on tree-free paper, and all events are held near public transportation options. We keep a list of our favorite vendors here.

The Lokta paper we use is made from the inner bark of the Daphne Bush that grows high in the mountains of Nepal. After harvesting, the bark regenerates and no forestation is destroyed. Our tree-free paper is both environmentally sound as well as acid free. The traditional art of hand papermaking has been handed down from generation to generation in a rural economy that is dependant on the craftsman’s skill. In using this special paper we contribute to an economic enterprise that preserves a traditional way of life for forthcoming generations.

Most of our paper contains coreopsis and Sweet Alyssum seeds so please plant it and watch the red and white flowers bloom! To plant, simply place the sheets beneath 1/8th of an inch of soil and keep it very moist for 4-6 weeks. Be sure that the seedlings receive 4 hours of sunlight daily.

Barbara Bitondo de Arène, the founder of Pythagoras’ Daughter brings to the school a global world view, a Masters Degree from Smith College and a decade of Training and Development at The World Bank Group.  She is a certified Appreciative Inquiry Practitioner, a student of Human Capacities with Jean Houston and a member of the Institute of Noetic Sciences.
